The Doodle Bar in Battersea

The Doodle Bar in Battersea

The Doodle Bar in Battersea is one of those gems that are a bit hard to find. That's probably why it took me till now to discover it. It's lodged between a bus terminus, a car park and a petrol station. Even though the Doodle bar is housed in a old depot, once inside it looks a lot friendlier.

As you walk into what looks like a garage door, you enter into a covered space where picnic tables and benches are strewn across the floor. In the back a sign that says Doodle Bar leads customers into the actual homy looking bar. There are high tables and stools along the windows and communal, wooden tables and a mismatch of chairs fill the rest of the space. There's an entire wall painted with blackboard paint inviting punters to scribble away. The bar is stocked with all the usual suspects (including the neigbour's gin) as well as coffee and tea. Further along you'll find a lovely outdoor space overlooking some house boats floating on a tributary of the Thames. Great for having a cool drink during those balmy London summers.

Apparently it started as a pop-up creative venue and proofed so popular among the Batterseans and other Londoners, that they decided to stay. The owners claim that Doodle Bar is more than just a bar. It's a venue where people can come and have a coffee (or something a bit stronger) while being creative and meet other creative souls. And other than offering a cosy environment the Doodle Bar offers many events ranging from exhibitions, work shops, free Spanish movies, a beach club, open mic nights and lots more.

We were there when the beach club was on, however the weather wasn't all that beachy so we opted to have a hot coffee with a French crepe inside. I loved the creative atmosphere, the delectable food and drinks and friendly staff. And with creative  free events just on my door step, I will definitely be returning to the Doodle Bar once more.
