Things are just getting hipper and hipper over here in Battersea. This weekend I had a drink in the sun at newly opened Zocala Bar on Battersea square. The Square is one of the few European style squares with outdoor cafes in London and Zocala is one of them.
The bar recently changed owners, name and outfit and now looks hip and trendy enough to compete with Ramsay's new bar and restaurant across the street. Inside the decor looks bright and airy with white washed and exposed brick walls decorated with black and white photos. The mirrors on the side and behind the bar give the place an even more spacious feel to it. Inside punters can sit at high wooden tables along the walls or at the windows.
The owners of Zocala hail from Mexico and this is very noticeable. The bar is named after a popular and busy square in Mexico City where apparently many events and festivals take place. The bar menu has a very Mexican flavour as well: You can choose from lots of refreshing cocktails such as mojitos, cuba libres, or indulge in shots of mezcal and tequila. The food is no less Mexican and you can feast on snacks such as tacos, tortillas and a selection of tapas.
But the biggest perk of Zocala is its outdoor space on Battersea Square where you can watch the sun go down and Batterseans go by. I know where I'll be having my sun-downers this summer.
