Afternoon Tea at Lancaster Hotel

Two weeks ago 30 odd London bloggers came together again for what's quickly becoming a tradition; The London Bloggers Afternoon Tea. For the second time it was hosted by Chef Ben Purton who's moved on from cooking up tasty dishes at the Royal Horsguards Hotel and now works at the Lancaster London Hotel. And boy, does he know how to treat lady bloggers (and 1 gentleman) as he had rolled out the red carpet. Literally.

The afternoon tea took place in a private room where we were greeted by the waitstaff who exchanged our coats for a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne. Waiting on the red carpet leading into the private room, a paparazzo photographer was taking our photos, making us almost feel like real celebs.

While we were waiting for all the bloggers to arrive, we were entertained by a rep of Laurent Perrier hosting a champagne tasting and food pairing.

Soon it was time to site down and eat and drink tea. Chef Ben had prepared the usual salmon, cucumber and egg finger sandwiches, but there was also a delicious Yorkshire pudding filled with roast beef. The sweeties consisted of a passion fruit macaroon, a lemony tart, an apple tart and a hazelnut pie slice. My favourite was the white chocolate and raspberry lolly-pop, which literally kept popping inside my mouth.

Then there were Chef Ben's scones. Not only had he prepared the standard plain and fruit scones, but for this occasion we were treated to Christmas pudding scones. Combined with the house marmalade, this just felt like celebrating Christmas in your mouth.

The afternoon was finished off with a tour through the kitchens of the hotel where Chef Ben showed us where they make all those delightful treats. He sent us off with the best goodie bag ever: A mini bottle of Laurent Perrier champagne, Novus tea samples, almond biscotti and Lancaster London jam.

Like I said, Chef Ben knows how to treat his guests like celebrities. I can't wait for the next one.
