Review of Mendoza Square Clapham

If you want to eat your way around South America and not leave your table, then Mendoza Square in Clapham is just the place. It opened recently in Clapham North on Bedford Road and I was invited to come and try out their menu.
Mendoza Square is a colourful and cozy venue with a front side terrace that basks in the sun in the early summer evening, London weather permitting of course. Inside there are bar style high tables on one side, and lower version on the other and lots of Latin looking murals.

Mendoza Square do amazing cocktails, but on this fine Monday evening I was more in a wine mood so I went for a crisp glass of Chilean sauv blanc. I waited for my friend to arrive who had mistakenly taken the tube to Clapham South so I had some time to study the menu.

There really is food from all over the Southern American continent. There is grilled chicken from Brazil, chili and garlic gambas from Uruguay and desserts from Cuba. You'll also find lots of the familiar Mexican favourites like chili con carne, fajitas and tacos.

Sanne and I both chose the empanadas to start with, although I had the beef version and Sanne the chicken. The came with a tangy chimichuri dip which complemented them very well. I have a thing for empanadas so needless to say I enjoyed these ones very much.

My main was a trio of tacos filled with pulled pork, chili con carne and one with chimichuri chicken, each topped with a dollop of cream, chili sauce and guac and some grated cheese. It's hard to say which one I liked best as the three of them were all taco perfection.

Feeling rather full, yet not quite able to resists the temptation of the dessert menu, I ordered the Cuban creme brulee, which was delicioso, but I struggled to finish it. Too much good food in one evening.

We left the restaurant when we felt able to lift ourselves out of our chairs. We both agreed we'd go back to Mendoza soon. I mean where else can you travel from Chile to Cuba via Argentina and Mexico in under 2 hours?

  2. This place not only looks cute but the food sounds amazing! Tell me, what's the difference between a Cuban creme brûlée and a non-Cuban one? x
