Cities around the World I've Called Home

Home seems like the opposite of travel, but to me, home has been in a few fantastic cities around the world and has actually given me the opportunity to see a lot of places on this globe.

The first city I lived in after leaving my parents' house was Brussels. I went to uni here for three years and although it is not my favourite of places, I did use my time there to discover Brussels' famous and not so famous sights. My favourite things to do were visiting the Art Nouveau Horta Museum, having drinks on the Grand Sablon square and shopping in the Avenue Louise.

Thai Food at the Blue Elephant

Last week I kicked off my weekend with some Thai food at the Blue Elephant.

Now this restaurant is one bridge too far from my house as it sits just across the river in Fulham. I really love its authentic decor and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it feels like you are in Thailand when you walk through their door. Till you look outside and see the Thames Clipper whizz by. But hey, dining with a view of London by the Thames might not sound as exotic as Thailand, but it's nice nonetheless.

We started off with some wine and veggie spring rolls and a spicy dip. I don't know what it is with Thai places, but of all cuisines in the world, I think Thai dishes are the prettiest. The springrolls tasted lovely as well, although I still don't know why they always come in uneven numbers, even when you're dining in an even numbered party.

Pergola on the Roof

When spring comes to town so do the roof top bars. Today I had a peek at the brand spanking new Pergola in the roof in Shepherd's Bush.

Turkish Food at Petek

Last week I was introduced to the wonderful Turkish food at Petek in Finsbury Park. A friend had been raving about it, so he finally got me to go and try their cooking.

Things to Do Around Lake Como

Lake Como has got a bit of a rep for being ritzy and expensive, but I found it isn't just for folks like George Clooney and there are actually lots of things to do around Lake Como for people like you and me.

Mauritian Food at Marcel and Sons

Last weekend my Sunday brunch looked and tasted a little bit more exotic than your average roast pork and Yorkshires. I actually had Mauritian food at Marcel and Sons in Elephant and Castle.

24 Hours in Milan

Last weekend I flew to Milan for the Bank Holiday. Even though Lake Como was the final destination of our trip, I decided to spend 24 hours in Milan. If I'm honest, I wasn't expecting much as I'd heard from many people the city has more to offer shoppers than sightsee-ers. One friend even called it a shit hole.

Now I wouldn't exactly call it that. True, it's not the prettiest city I've ever visited, but I did find some nice spots while wandering around.
