Since there was no sexy half-naked man serving me breakfast in bed on my birthday yesterday morning, I decided to treat myself to a birthday breakfast at Queenswood, sister restaurant of Soho hot spot Damson & Co. This newly opened eatery is another step in the right direction for the square which had been a bit scuzzy for years. Now with the likes of Ramsay, newly renovated Zocala bar and now Queenswood, Battersea Square is going places.
As said, to treat myself, I left said imaginary half-naked man at home and walked over to the square. The weather was nice so I grabbed a table outside in the sun. The menu had a lot to choose from with dishes sounding more wholesome than fry-up. Think organic porridge, free-range eggs and lots of veggie options.
I went for the gluten-free pancakes with warm berries, maple syrup and orange infused yogurt. It took a while for them to arrive to my table, but I was in no hurry. I was sitting quite comfortably soaking up the sun enjoying the watermelon and mint juice, which was lovely by the way. None of that bottled stuff, this was proper self-juiced juice.
The pancakes were nice, although the texture a bit different to what I'm used to. But this was my first foray into gluten-free dining so can't say much about that. The best part was the yoghurt and it went incredibly well with pancakes. Never would I have thought to put those two together. But it worked, very well I might add.
I lingered around a bit and was not rushed to give up my table for the next round of eager customers queuing at the door. That's Battersea. And from what I could tell from the rest of the menu, I will be back to try out their lunch and dinner menu very soon.
