Everything Scandinavian is so hot right now. So hot that
even Edinburgh is the proud owner of a couple of Swedish style bakeries called
Soderberg. My friend and I just happened on a smaller one of their 4 outlets,
just off busy Princes Street on
Queensferry Street.
This shop is only a little bakery with one set of table and chairs, so we grabbed a coffee and a couple of cinnamon and cardamom bullar to go. After a bit of a Google, we found out that they own a couple of cafes as well, so we decided to check one out on the Sunday morning.
We went to the one on Simpson Loan, a very modern looking complex of apartments, gyms and a handful of shops. We were bang on time for opening, so we picked the best seat in the house; a sofa stood in front of the window looking out onto the street.
I'd enjoyed the bullar on the previous day so much, I
just had to have another one. I added a portion of fresh pumpkin toast with jam
and butter for some substance.
My friend went for the breakfast pizza which was topped
with a fried egg, ham and spinach. We washed it all down with a couple of cups
of coffee and tea.
We stayed for about an hour, as we had a busy sightseeing
programm to follow that day. But if we hadn't, I could've stayed on for a
couple of hours, because it is that kind of bring-your-book/laptop-and-stay-a-while
kind a place.
How excellent! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I feel a trip to Edinburgh coming on.
